A Resident's PerspectiveAlisha Madden was one of the many residents in Riverside that are experiencing the effects of gentrification. She moved to Riverside after struggling with homelessness. The Riverside neighborhood used to feel like family for her. As the prices of housing went up, she was forced to move out because she could no longer afford to live there. Alisha says that, "I didn't have family, but living over there I felt like I did. If everybody is poor, everybody is helping each other. We still need to have a poor neighborhood"("I'm not Moving"). Riverside is a predominantly Black neighborhood, and has a median household income of $29,000 according to IndyVitals’ latest 2019 data.
